Day 01 : Arrival in Hanoi

Welcome to Vietnam. Vietlanddiscovery’s guide and driver will be waiting for you at the airport to take you toVietnam’s capital, Hanoi. Nothing  planned for to day, allowing you to recover from a long flight.

Day 02 : Visit of  Hanoi. (B)

On the second day you are goingto visit the most notable cultural sites recensed in Hanoi, known to be one of the most charming city in South-East Asia.

You get to see Indochina General Governor ex-palace, « Uncle Ho » home on stilts, nestled in a beautiful botanical garden as well as Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, the one pillar pagoda, build in 1049 and still one of Hanoi’s most prominents symbols.

You will then head for the Temple of Litterature. Founded in 1070, it was the firts vietnamese university. In the ethnological museum, inaugurated by Jacques Chirac in partnership with Paris’s « Musée des Arts Premiers » you will get acquainted with Vietnam’s 54 ethnic peoples. In the museum’s botanical park you will visit traditional houses of some of these ethnic peoples.

You then stroll around Hoan Kiem lake and go through the famous red bridge to reach Ngoc Son temple. To end an exciting day in Hanoi, you will attend the renowned water puppet play. UNESCO World Cultural Heritage, this traditional show illustrates life in the rice paddies and brings back to life the country’s thousands of years old culture.

Day 03 : Hanoi – Nghia Lo           (B, L, D)

Depart Hanoi for further northern Vietnam exploration. You will go up and down red earthed hills, on roads simmering through corn, cassava and tea cultures. Have lunch along the way and reach Nghia Lo in the afternoon..

You will be welcomed in an ethnic White Thaï’s home. The house on stilts, entierly made of wood is build against the hillside hovering Muong Lo’s valleys, secong bigest valley of northern Vietnam and seen as ethnic Thai people homeland. While the family prepares dinner, you will go for a stroll or a bike ride in Nghia An village and its surroundings. You will discover an area mainly inhabited by Black Thais, and witness their way of life. Back to the house, you share the family’s dinner while hearing about Thai past and present life, their customs and habits.

Day 04 : Nghia Lo – Mu Cang Chai           (B, L, D)

After a homemade breakfast, you go for a trek, up and down medium sized mountains to reach Pa Lau village. Perched on the side of a hill, this village is the nest of roughly one hundred ethnic Black H’mong families, a people leading a rustic life around earth-made houses. This will be an opportunity for you to witness from within a way of life still untouched by modernity. In Pa Lau village, people share their living space with their buffalos, cattles, goats and pigs  surrounded by rice terrasses, corn and cassava fields. This trek is the promise of genuine meetings with people inhabiting a completely different world.  

You then take the " photographs road " that snake through the most beautiful sites of northern Vietnam, heading for Mu Cang Chai. Today's drive  includes many stops along the way for you to enjoy the landscape, take few pictures or just admire the nature's wonder from Khau Pha pass or view of Tu Le Valley from birdeye point of view. 

Toward the end of the afternoon, you reach Mu Cang Chai, a small moutain-town.  You are going to visit charming Om Khom village on the side of the mountain next to a wide valley where rice, corn, sweet potatoes and other vegetables are produced.

Day 05 : Mu Cang Chai – Sapa    (B, L, D)

The morning drive to Sapa is going through an amazing valley that Nam Na river snakes around at the bottom before crossing Hoang Lien Son mountain range near its highest peak, mount Fanxipan. You stop again here for few minutes on side of the road to fully appreciate the beauty of these landscapes.

Arrive in Sapa, the mountain town known as " city in the clouds ", in late afternoon. As the most visited town in North-west Vietnam, Sapa hides in a marvelous valley, at the center of a mountains circus covered in hamlets.  You can take a quick rest after check in your hotel before going for the visit of Sapa town. You will see the market and watch the city from higher up above on Mont Ham Rong. You are not only can see the whole town from here but also most of Muong Hoa valley from here.

Day 06 : Visit of Sapa     (B, L, D)

Located on the north-vietnam highlands, Sapa is one of the most picturesque sceneries Vietnam has to offer. Some French style villas stand as testimony for the fact that Sapa was founded when the french ruled over Vietnam, mainly as a mean for french statesmans to escape to hot weather conditions.There are few different ethnic peoples inhabiting the surrounding area normally gather around in the market (indigo H’mong, Yaos, Tay, Dzay and Xapho).

Today, you will discover Sapa and the surrounding villages by mean of a trek through the green mountains upon which they are nested. In the morning you will visit Lao Chai, village of the Black H’mong and Ta Van, the Dzay.

Day 07 : Sapa –colourful market – Lao Cai – Hanoi           (B, L, D)

Depends on the date of your arrival, you will either go to Can Cau, Bac Ha, Coc Ly or Cao son market. Each location holds a weekly colourful market on different day in a week. Different ethnic people gather around in groups to exchange and sell their products or sometime just to mingle. You have to leave this beautiful market at some point to take a small boat cruise down Chay river then overnight train back to Hanoi.

Day 08 : Hanoi – Ha Long           (B, L, D)

Arrive Hanoi early in the am, pick up by tour guide and driver then transfer to a small hotel for refreshment and breakfast. 3hr drive after that will take you to world known Ha Long bay for 24hr cruise. Spend the afternoon to cruise around 3000 limestone pinnacles piercing the emerald water of Gulf of Tonkin. Halong is one of Vietnam’s most incredible natural wonders that proclaimed a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Overnight onboard the shared traditional jonque.


Day 09: Ha Long – Ninh Binh                (B, Brunch)

Breakfast is being served on-board while the cruise proceeds towards the Tunnel Cave, which will be visited later on small sampans boats. You then cruise further to visit Bai Tu Long bay. Back to the dock  around 11.45 am, you will  be heading for Ninh Binh province.

Arrive in Ninh Binh later in the afternoon and settle in your hotel, you will be just in time  to get to  Thai Vi temple and see the sun set in a unique natural landscape. The guardian of the temple might enhance the atmosphere’s beauty by playing njarka, a single string traditionnal vietnamese instrument. Dinner at your hotel’s restaurant.

Day 10: Ninh Binh – Hanoi – Hue                (B)

In Trang An, after a relaxing cruise on sampan boats, you go on bicycle ride around the Ninh Binh region’s landmark karstik peaks standing on paddie fields and their many shades of green. A narrow path will take you to Mua Cave site. Your reward for climbing its 450 stairs is a breathtaking view of Land Halong Bay.

You will then be heading for the largest cultural site of south-east asia : magnificent, gigantic Bai Dinh Pagoda which carry  over 100 ton golden Bouddhas, its 500 smaller ones,  500 meters long alleys and  500 ton bell.

Transfer to the airport for flight to Hue, the country’s capital under Nguyen dynasty rule (1802-1954), 654 km south of Hanoi. This city in which  the "fragrances river"  meanders, inspired many poets. There is a melancholic charm and a special sweetness to it, thanks to its palaces, shrines, refined food and the gentle voices of the women here. Meet up with tour guide  at the airport and transfer  to your hotel.

Day 11:  Hue sightseeing     (B, L)

Wake up early and take a quick walk along the river that goes right through the city gives you chance to feel the spirit of this place, of people's life here . A cruise later up the city’s romantic « fragrances river » will take you to Thien Mu pagoda, founded in 1601. You will then have lunch in Thuy Bieu, a very typical village that you will further explore on  bicycles. You will paddle along paths lined with richly decorated houses, garden-houses traditional architecture of Hue region and the village’s school.

Day 12: Hue – Da Nang – Hoi An (B)

In the morning, visit emperor Tu Duc’s shrine and apreciate its elaborated architecture surrounded by beautiful landscape gardens . The king had it build for himself long before he died and used to call it “my eternity”. It inspires the pleasure when alive far more than the fear of death. You will then discover emperor Khai Dinh’s shrine and its surprising vietnamese-european architeture combination.

You depart after lunch for the ancient port city of Hoi An via the " clouds moutain pass ", stoping on the summit to enjoy the superb panoramic view of the shoreline, stop again to stretch you legs on the ravishing white sanded beach of Lang Co.

By late afternoon you will arrive in Hoi An, unique untouched vietnamese town that becoming a living art and architecture museum. A priceless cultural and historical legacy steams from a city that bore witness to a thriving foreign trade period. You will then check into your hotel and settle for the night.

Day 13: Visit of Hoi An (B)

Visit the city’s antiquities museum, japanese bridge, chinese quarter, Phung Hung house, the market and a port that reached its peak of activity during the 15th century when major boats came in from China, Holland, Japan and Portugal to exchange all kinds of goods. Your next stops are Chuc Thanh pagoda, erected by a chinese monk in 1454. End the day with a quick boat crise up Thu Bon river to visit  500 year old pottery village, famous country-wide for the meticulous artisanal work of its inhabitants : Thanh Ha.

Day 14: Hoi An – Da Nang – Buon Me Thuot         (B, L, D)

Transfer to Da Nang airport for flight VN1911 (09:40-10:40) to Buon Me Thuot, city on centralVietnam high plains. Ethnic Edé and ethnic Mnongs peoples inhabit this land. This region is renowned for its productions of coffee and pepper as well as for its climate and pleasant natural setting.

Upon your arrival in Buon Me Thuot, your guide and driver will take you to you hotel. In the afternoon, going to to watch the way Dray Sap and Dray Nur waterfalls pouring water in to Serepok river in magnificents wild surroundings. Pay a visit to Ede village, Ako Dhong.

Day 15: Buon Me Thuot – LakLake          (B, L, D).

You are going visit Aco Dhong village, land of ethnic of Edé, and its ethnographic museum. You will then move forward to Lak village where you meet ethnic group of  Mnong Rlam. An elephant ride takes you around Lak lake all the way to Ban Jun village. You will then switch from the back of your gigantic friends to pirogues, in order to go to M’lien village. In the evening you share rice whine with Mnong people and enjoy gong show performed by village inabitants from all ages.

Day 16: Lac Lak – Park York Don – Buon Me Thuot           (B, L, D)

In the morning you have a two hour walk in the forest of Yok Don national park, on a sampan-boat you will go through  Sêrêpok river. In the afternoon, elephants will kindly guide you through Ban Don village. You will cross a suspended bridge to go to the ancient home on stilts and shrine of the hunting king. You will be back in Buon Me Thuot towards the end of the afternoon.

Located in Buon Don and Ea Sup vicinity, in Dac Lac province (centre highlands), Yok Don is one of the 25 vietnamese national parks. 115 500 ha-wide, Yok Don national park is a safe haven for wild animals, most notably for primates, sciuridaes and ungulates mammals, south-est asia’s wildlife characteristic features.

Day 17: Buon Me Thuot – Saigon (B)

Transfer to Buon Me Thuot airport for flight VN1411  (11:30-12:30) to Saigon, vietnamese economic capital. Your guide will welcome you at Tan Son Nhat airport and take you on a tour to the reunification palace, the war museum, Notre Dame cathedral and the central post office designed by Gustave Eiffel. You will stroll around Cho Lon market in the chinese quarter and visit Thien Hau pagoda.

Day 18: Sai Gon – Cai Be floating market – Vinh Long – Can Tho   (B, L)

Departure from Saigon for Cai Be floating market in the Mekong delta region, highly fertile region thus dubbed " Vietnam’s rice basket". Frequently flooded by Mekong river forces people here use transportation on waterways.

In Cai Be you will visit craft villages then have lunch at Xeo May bonsaïs garden. Your boat will then take you all the way to Hoa Khanh village. Upon landing, you will go for a bicycle ride through the village. Eend the day with a drive to  Can Tho where you spend the night.

Day 19: Can Tho – Cai Rang floating market – Saigon (B)

A boat trip in the early morning let you witness the live spectacle of Cai Rang floating market. The setting is beautiful : hundreds of merchants on motorized sampans filled with rice, fruits and artisanal products will gather to exchange.

Leaving this agitation behind, you pay a visit to Binh Thuy house and Long Dinh village which famous for its hand woved mats before driving back to Saigon towards the end of the afternoon and settle in your hotel.

Day 20: Saigon – Temple Tay Ninh – Tunnels Cu Chi – Saigon – Departure (B)

Visit Tay Ninh and Caodai temple, where you’ll have the opportunity to attend a religious ceremony held daily at noon. Colourful and special, this temple is the heart of the Caodaism religion in Vietnam. Jesus, Buddha, Victor Hugo, Winston Churchill and Nguyen Binh Kiem are some of the saints being worshipped here.

Afternoon, tour Cu Chi area that known in Vietnam war before 1975, just 60 km away from Saigon city center, for its network of tunnels, 250 km long, build during the war. You will be back in Saigon late in the afternoon.
