Day 01 : Arrival in Hanoi

Welcome to Vietnam. Vietlanddiscovery’s guide and driver will be waiting for you at the airport to take you toVietnam’s capital, Hanoi. Nothing is planned for to day, allowing you to rest after a long  flight.

Day 02 : Visit of  Hanoi.                           (B)

On the second day you are goingto visit the most notable cultural sites recensed in Hanoi, known to be one of the most charming city in South-East Asia.

You get to see Indochina General Governor ex-palace, « Uncle Ho » home on stilts, nestled in a beautiful botanical garden as well as Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, the one pillar pagoda, build in 1049 and still one of Hanoi’s most prominents symbols.

You will then head for the Temple of Litterature. Founded in 1070, it was the first Vietnamese university. In the ethnological museum, inaugurated by Jacques Chirac in partnership with Paris’s « Musée des Arts Premiers » you will get acquainted with Vietnam’s 54 ethnic groups. In the museum’s botanical park you will visit traditional houses of some of these ethnic people.

You then stroll around Hoan Kiem lake and go through the famous The Huc red bridge to reach Ngoc Son temple. To end an exciting day in Hanoi, you will attend the renowned water puppet show. UNESCO World Cultural Heritage, this traditional show illustrates life in the rice paddies and brings back to life the country’s thousands of years old culture.

Day 03 : Hanoi – Duong Lam village  – Lao Cai     (B, L)

The third day will be devoted to dicover the Red River surroundings, Duong Lam old village and Ha Thai artisanal village in particular. You will take the road in the morning towards Duong Lam village, 60 km - or 2 hours - from Hanoi. Upon arrival, you go for a bicycle ride around the village, visit Mia pagoda " sugar cane pagoda " as well as King Ngo Quyen and King Phung Hung respective temples. You will then have lunch in a local family’s home.  

Afterlunch, move on to Ha Thai village, where you  witness the artisanal production of varnished products, before heading back to Hanoi. In the evening, transfer to Hanoi railway station for over night train to Lao Cai, city established on the chinese border.

Day 04 : Lao Cai – ethnic market – Sapa                (B)

Early morning arrival in Lao Cai where your driver and your guide will welcome you. After having breakfast in a local restaurant, you will head to one of the markets in Can Cau, Bac Ha, Coc Ly or Cao Son, depending on which one takes place on the day of your arrival. Any of these traditional market will be colourful and authentic. Markets here are not only for shopping but also give surrounding ethnic people an opportunity to meet and socialize.

Take a quick cruise down Chay river before leaving for Sapa. Along the way, the beauty of the landscapes will prompt many stops to please your eyes and your camera. You will stop along the way for dinner. Late afternoon or early evening, transfer to old Sapa city, where you will settle in for the night.

Day 05 : Sapa – Lao Cai – Hanoi                      (B)

Perched on the North-Vietnam highland, Sapa is one of the most picturesque sceneries Vietnam has to offer. Some villas stand testimony of the fact that Sapa was founded under the french rule of Vietnam, mainly as a mean for french statesmans to escape the hot weather condition. Different ethnic people inhabiting the surrounding area gather here in town's market (indigo H’mong, Yaos, Tay, Dzay and Xapho).

To day you will discover Sapa and the surrounding villages by mean of a trek through the green mountains upon which they are nested. In the morning you will visit Lao Chai, village of the Black H’mong and Ta Van, inhabited by the Dzay. In the afternoon you will stroll around Sapa city and Ta Phin village. You will then take a train in Lao Cai to go back to Hanoi.

Day 06: Hanoi – Ha Long                          (B, L, D)

 Early morning arrival in Hanoi, your guide and driver will take you to your hotel to freshen up and have breakfast. You then get on the road for Ha Long bay, a drive that take you through the Red River delta and during the length of which you will be surrounded by vietnamese countryside daily life scenes. In Ha Long you board a traditionnal junk to discover a 1500 sq.km-wide site that includes 3000 islands and rock formations, proudly emerging from the water for everyone to admire their fantastic shapes.        

-          12h00 : Arrival in Hon Gai port and boarding of a shared deluxe jonque.

-          13h15 : Lunch is served while the cruise proceeds.

-          Visit of a fisherman’s village. Stop on a small beach for sea and sun bathing.

-          Sun set on Ha Long Bay. 

-          Around 6.30 pm the vessel is anchored for the night.

-          19h30 : Dinner is served on board.

Day 07: Ha Long – Ninh Binh                     (B, Brunch)

Breakfast is being served on-board while the cruise proceeds towards the Tunnel Cave, which will be visited later on small sampan boat. You then cruise further to visit Bai Tu Long bay. Back to the dock  around 11.45 am, you will  be heading for Ninh Binh province.

Arrive in Ninh Binh later in the afternoon and settle in your hotel, you will be just in time  to get to  Thai Vi temple and see the sun set in a unique natural landscape. The guardian of the temple might enhance the atmosphere’s beauty by playing njarka, a single string traditionnal vietnamese instrument. Dinner at your hotel’s restaurant.

Overnight in Ninh Binh.

Day 08: Ninh Binh – Hanoi – Hue                        (B)

In Trang An, after a relaxing cruise on sampan boat, you go on bicycle ride around the Ninh Binh region’s landmark karstik peaks standing on paddie fields and their many shades of green. A narrow path will take you to Mua Cave site. Your reward for climbing its 450 stairs is a breathtaking view of Land Halong Bay.

You will then be heading for the largest cultural site of south-east asia : magnificent, gigantic Bai Dinh Pagoda which carry  over 100 ton golden Bouddhas, its 500 smaller ones,  500 meters long alleys and  500 ton bell.

Transfer to the airport for flight to Hue, the country’s capital under Nguyen dynasty rule (1802-1954), 654 km south of Hanoi. This city in which  the "fragrances river"  meanders, inspired many poets. There is a melancholic charm and a special sweetness to it, thanks to its palaces, shrines, refined food and the gentle voices of the women here. Meet up with tour guide  at the airport and transfer  to your hotel.

Day 09: Visit of Hue                                       (B, L)

Wake up early and take a quick walk along the river that goes right through the city gives you chance to feel the spirit of this place, of people's life here . A cruise later up the city’s romantic « fragrances river » will take you to Thien Mu pagoda, founded in 1601. You will then have lunch in Thuy Bieu, a very typical village that you will further explore on  bicycles. You will paddle along paths lined with richly decorated houses, garden-houses traditional architecture of Hue region and the village’s school.

Day 10: Hue – Da Nang – Hoi An                      (B)

In the morning, visit emperor Tu Duc’s shrine and apreciate its elaborated architecture surrounded by beautiful landscape gardens . The king had it build for himself long before he died and used to call it “my eternity”. It inspires the pleasure when alive far more than the fear of death. You will then discover emperor Khai Dinh’s shrine and its surprising vietnamese-european architeture combination.

You depart after lunch for the ancient port city of Hoi An via the " clouds moutain pass ", stoping on the summit to enjoy the superb panoramic view of the shoreline, stop again to stretch you legs on the ravishing white sanded beach of Lang Co.

By late afternoon you will arrive in Hoi An, unique untouched vietnamese town that becoming a living art and architecture museum. A priceless cultural and historical legacy steams from a city that bore witness to a thriving foreign trade period. You will then check into your hotel and settle for the night.

Day 11: Visit of Hoi An                           (B)

Visit the city’s antiquities museum, japanese bridge, chinese quarter, Phung Hung house, the market and a port that reached its peak of activity during the 15th century when major boats came in from China, Holland, Japan and Portugal to exchange all kinds of goods. Your next stops are Chuc Thanh pagoda, erected by a chinese monk in 1454. End the day with a quick boat crise up Thu Bon river to visit  500 year old pottery village, famous country-wide for the meticulous artisanal work of its inhabitants : Thanh Ha.

Day 12: Hoi An – Da Nang – Nha Trang                (B)

Take flight VN1943 (10:10-11 :35) at Da Nang airport for Nha Trang, one of Vietnam nicest seaside resort city. Your guide and driver will pick you up at the airport and take you to your hotel.  You enjoy a laid back afternoon on a white sanded beach lined with coconut trees and swim in a sea of turquoise water, warm all year round.

Day 13: Visit of  Nha Trang                         (B)

The morning is for crusing Nha Trang Bay and the islands around with stop to visit Mun island. In the afternoon you visit Cham Po Nagar, Long Son pagoda, Nha Trang Cathedral and Dam market.

Day 14: Nha Trang – Saigon                           (B)

Boarding flight VN1353 (09:35-10:30) to Saigon, economic capital of Vietnam. Meet up with tour guide at Tan Son Nhat airport and take you to the reunification palace, the war museum, Notre Dame cathedral and the central post office designed by Gustave Eiffel. You will stroll around Cho Lon market in the chinese quarter and visit Thien Hau pagoda.

Day 15: Sai Gon – Cai Be floating market – Vinh Long – Can Tho (B, L)

Departure from Saigon for Cai Be floating market in the Mekong delta region, highly fertile region thus dubbed " Vietnam’s rice basket". Frequently flooded by Mekong river forces people here use transportation on waterways.

In Cai Be you will visit craft villages then have lunch at Xeo May bonsaïs garden. Your boat will then take you all the way to Hoa Khanh village. Upon landing, you will go for a bicycle ride through the village. Eend the day with a drive to  Can Tho where you spend the night.

Day 16: Can Tho – Cai Rang floting market – Saigon             (B)

A boat trip in the early morning let you witness the live spectacle of Cai Rang floating market. The setting is beautiful : hundreds of merchants on motorized sampans filled with rice, fruits and artisanal products will gather to exchange.

Leaving this agitation behind, you pay a visit to Binh Thuy house and Long Dinh village which famous for its hand woved mats before driving back to Saigon towards the end of the afternoon and settle in your hotel.

Day 17: Saigon – Temple Tay Ninh – Tunnels Cu Chi – Saigon           (B)

Visit Tay Ninh and Caodai temple, where you’ll have the opportunity to attend a religious ceremony held daily at noon. Colourful and special, this temple is the heart of the Caodaism religion in Vietnam. Jesus, Buddha, Victor Hugo, Winston Churchill and Nguyen Binh Kiem are some of the saints being worshipped here.

Afternoon, tour Cu Chi area that known in Vietnam war before 1975, just 60 km away from Saigon city center, for its network of tunnels, 250 km long, build during the war. You will be back in Saigon late in the afternoon.

Day 18: Sai Gon Departure                    (B)

Some free time will allow you on this last day to stroll freely around Saigon before transfer to the airport to board your international flight onward.
